Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
We would expect pupils to engage with remote education as fully as they are able to, given the circumstances that they find themselves in. We would hope that parents will support and enable children’s remote learning to the best of their ability, particularly focusing on basic skills that need to be covered in their child’s year group in maths and English.
We understand the pressures that everybody is facing at the moment, and that every family’s circumstances are unique. We would not expect pupils to complete every aspect of every task suggested, but we will be looking for regular engagement with the activities suggested by the teachers. We would encourage parents of children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 to share progress whenever you can, but at least weekly to enable us to provide the appropriate feedback and support.
As children in Key Stage 2 finish and save their work, teaching staff will be able to view the completed work. We are encouraging children in Years 3 and 4 and we will be expecting children in Years 5 and 6 to be more independent and to contact their teachers through School360 emails, which is secure and safe, if they do not understand or are having difficulties with any work. This will be responded to as soon as possible, as teaching staff are monitoring these emails constantly.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
After allowing an initial period of time where families are readjusting to the new circumstances they find themselves in, we will start to monitor engagement with remote learning and make contact with families.
In the first instance, teachers will message parents to check whether there have been issues and whether there is anything we can do to support remote learning. Depending on the response to the message enquiry, we would continue to communicate with parents via Class Dojo or phone calls, working together with families to ensure that pupils are getting the best possible opportunity to further their learning at home.
If parents or children have concerns about their progress or engagement, we would encourage you to make contact with the teachers as soon as possible to discuss what additional support may be appropriate.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Teaching staff will regularly monitor their Class Dojo accounts and the School 360 emails for the older children. Parents and carers are encouraged to attach examples of their children’s work (Early Years and Key Stage 1) on a regular basis, which teachers can then mark and reply to, including constructive comments to help the pupils and parents know how best to move on with the work.
Teachers will endeavour to reply to these messages and emails as quickly as possible, so the frequency of feedback to each pupil will depend on how regularly work is messaged to us. Please be aware that teaching staff are also with children in school.
